Geography in Greece

Geography in Greece is not so good. All the mountains had made the country break up into city-states. Transportation is also difficult because of the mountains. Water is also salty in Greece. Greece also have no raw materials of their own so they have to trade with other countries. At least the weather is good in Greece. The lowest temperatures in Greece in the winter were about 60-70 degrees F.

Athens vs. Sparta

The Peloponnesian War or also known as Athens Vs. Sparta. This war started when the Delian League (Athens) tried to tax all the other city states. The Peloponnesian League (Sparta) grew upset and fraustrated as well as many other city-states in Greece. The war first started at 431 B.C. when Sparta declared war on Athens. The war lasted all the way up to 404 B.C. when Athens had surrendered. Athens surrendered because Sparta had trapped Athens inside their homes. They were not allowed to trade, leave out, or get rid of wastes. Athens became very dirty and new diseases had spread. Sparta had used a very good technique against Athens.

Golden Age in Greece

A golden age is a time of peace and prosperity in a country, or nation. A golden age normally ends with a devastating event that happens to the place. Pericles started the golden age in Greece. He had three major goals to make Athens a better place. His first goal was to strengthen Athens’ empire. His second goal was to strengthen democracy in Athens by paying government workers. His last goal was to glorify Athens. He did this by buying a lot of gold and marble. Many statues were built as well.

Question: Did Pericles ever get overthrown for wasting tons of money by making Athens “beautiful”?
